Keep it Unreal
Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. What do you want to do if I believe it to be true? Believe it to be true, my king? Don't you remember. Agon his dream, the song advice? And it is true what he saw in the north, the prince that was promised. I tended to stand myselves the prince. Do you mac to Ralsey? I gets the call. It's a dark. Tss. You you are the ones. Ye, my students, your pe studies. Oh h h. I understand, my king. Hum oh. I no more. Oh f you Welcome to the Unreal Hour. Hi there, and welcome to our show. I'm Fiona and I'm Emma. And tonight is episode eight, The Lord of the Tides. This was directed by Gita Fasant Patel. She is known for a Shoka the Great, the adaptation of Kiftherine, A great one that's on Amazon. So funny, Runaways Dead to Me, that's so good to love that show, Santa Clarita, Diet Superstore, Atypical. You know these are all really funny shows. This was not a funny episode. It was not so She's versatile, yes, and the episode was also written by Eileen Shim, who is known for the Acolyte so that's two Star Wars ladies we have on this episode. And it didn't feel like Star Wars either. No, it did not. Very versatile. It was a great episode. What do you think overall thoughts? Overall it was. It was a very emotive episode, wasn't it. Oh god, it's full of all those hopes, regrets, the deep burness and rivalry between the houses. Oh yeah, I wrote family drama and the decline of the serieses health. Yeah, or the end as is probably more accurate. Yeah, it's goodbye to the glue. Oh god. So yeah, I mean overall it was. It was great. I was grit. I was the edge of my sy all the way through. I think I cried twice. And by the way, neither of them were when series died. But we'll get to that. It was just all so moving, in so tense, fab episode. So new characters this week was Eric Cargill. We had this brother last week and or was it two episodes ago that Eric first Maid's first appearance. Yes, I think he was in both episodes of that timeline, but this is the first time with Eric. He looks exactly to say, so, I'm going to have a hard job telling these guys apart as we go forward, I'm going to make it my life's mission though, so and we also have the young Agon inversaries as babies. I don't know how much of a pivotal role they play in the events of the dance given the rage, but they certainly are into house targety and going forward, yes, they are very We also had some recasting again again and for the last time, I believe, because the entire Dance of the Dragons takes place over the next two and a half years or something like that. So I don't think only do recast anybody. So yes, let's get to that. So Ranida's boys were played by For Jace, we have Harry Collett, and for Luceries we have Elliott's Greholt Greholt one of those yep apologies Eliot Allison's boys. We have Prince Agon played by Tom Glynn Carney Prince Aimond as you and Mitchell. We have Damon's girls. Lady Bayla is played by. Bethany Antonia, the Lady Rena is by Phoebe Campbell. And oh and also Allison's daughter Helena is played by Fia Sabin. And so that is all our new characters are new actors for. Hopefully the series. I think everyone that's important is now either there or born or growing up being recast three times. Hopefully, hopefully this is the end of that. Yes, definitely we will still have new characters of course coming into it, but just one version of them. Probably. It's hard to keep up the boys that played them during the last version of them. They were fantastic, wonderful experience for them. Oh, I know, so such young actors and such a high profile show for the to start out their career. That's it. They've got that in their cving for the rest of their days. Yeah. They were great episodes and they were great in it. So sad to see them go. But I'm sure it's not the last of them. No, it's definitely not the last of them, but certainly the last of them in House of the Dragon, unless they do a flashback or something. I'm sure we'll see Ty Tenant in the future. Oh, I am sure we will. He's certainly. He was also in Good Omens with David Tennant, wasn't he second season? Yes, I haven't seen it, so I couldn't tell you actually just know he was in it. It's very good. Yes, I have to see it, but it's such a while since I've I watched it, right, So I think after we've got all of that out of the way, I think time to. Get into the episode. Brilliant, so major plot lines. The big major plot line that starts off was the drift Mark succession. Yeah, so Corlis is gravely injured, and what's acting like he's dead already? Mostly his brother. Yeah, he's the one that's certainly done in the conversation, that's for sure, absolutely, and god is she just thinks that the guy's you know, fighting for his life somewhere. Rainy said that the the raven came from Evenfall and that that was what three days out, Yeah, something like that. And yeah, so he's you know. Gravely injured on a ship somewhere trying to get home, and everybody's acting like he's dead already except Rainie's. Yes, Yeah, except Rainies. Which is lovely because she's she's experienced so much death within her life, yet she still remains positive about Corliss. I know, that's really impressive. Actually, maybe it's a denial thing. She just can't imagine it's such a her husband so strong. Yes, I could I could understand it as it was a denial thing definitely. So I mean, Raymond, that dude is reaching a pain in the urs. Oh he is, isn't he an arrogant little twat? He's got this smug luk on his face all the time that I just want to punch him. Can't help it, just it's a reflex. However, I mean, playing Devil's advocate, you can see where he's coming from because everyone knows the truth, yes about Rania's boys. So from his perspective, you know, he doesn't want his family line to die out, and I. Can completely understand that if it wasn't for that smug look on his face. He's also completely overlooking the fact that Raina and Bayla are still alive and can carry on. Yeah, so yeah, stop being a dick, Faymond. Yeah, but I think it's the name more than anything. But then it's not because if Luke carries the Valarian name, then the Vlarian Lake name carries on. So either way, whether it's the name or the blood in some respects, it's still going to be carried on. He just wants them both together. It's from his own selfish perspective that He's like, well it has to be me. Yeah, well no, it doesn't. Love No, it does not. I love how Reinie is so calm and so regal she is. She is, she's very firm with them, she is, and that's just eve best, doesn't it. She's fantastic. We love her character. I absolutely love her so much. So yeah, from there, he obviously starts something. He goes away and writes some letters, and then Baylor writes her dad a letter. Yeah with Damon then takes to Runia to discuss so what did you What did you think of that week conversation there? Ah, I don't think they had any choice but to go to King's Landing. No, definitely not. I don't think Ranida was keen. No, No, that's for sure. And then they have this moment where Ranida's worried about Rainy's and Damon's like, no, she'll be fine, She'll be fine. She's like, have you forgotten? She thinks we killed her son. She's not inclined to be on our side. But this is a complex person, very thoughtful, and she's thought through every eventuality. I think, so yes. We then moves on to the Small Council's debate on the matter. So grand Master r Will mentions his mentions that it's. Corliss's wishes for Luke to be his heir. Thailand points out that Luca has, you know, not spent a lot of time on drift Mark. I don't know really how that matters. Beesberry's like, well, Beesberry, oh this did. He's like, well, ability does not alter his claim. And then Weld's like, he's not been formally named. And then somebody says, why should they not Beesbury? He's like, well, why should they not? It's Lenor's on. Sun and Jasper Well's like, why not Besberry? Why not? Indeed, I'm just. Rong here that Beesberry's living in the same bubble as the series. Yeah, although I think actually Beesberry's bubble might be worse. He's definitely in a thicker bubble. Yeah, because deep down I think the series knows the truth. But Beesberry's complete la la land. So yeah, Jasper, what's going on about what's best for the realm? Or was it auto? Was Auto? That says, well, whatever, somebody said something about it being best for the realm. I can't remember. I've just wrote best for the ALM. For me, visually, in that scene, I think seeing Alison in the seri's seat. Oh, I know, it was just like, oh, yes, I did take note of that, and I will mentally I didn't write it down, but definitely. It's just come to me. Yeah, it was. It was quite she looked very comfortable she did with her dad at her side. And yes, the only sort of opposing factor is crazy Beesberry. Well yeah, and that was what Raymond said to Rainy's at the beginning. It's not a king who sits the Iron's role in these days, it's a queen and he he believes he could get that queen on side. Absolutely. I don't think she'll take much convince in either. No. So then there was this really weird moment and Alison goes to meet Raniera and she gets called out of the room and she goes to meet Rania and also kind of watch walk out the room and he's like, shall we Levy attacks on Wool and I'm like, what what're you up to? You're just waiting for her to leave the room so you can all talk about your sinister plans. Yeah, what a bizarre thing to discuss consider in the previous topic. Yeah, and I'm just thinking to myself, I would not have noticed this first thing. I would have noticed something was up first time round. But now it's a rewatch and we absolutely know that they were all plotting behind Allison's back. Yeah, I saw it. I saw it for the first time and I was. Like, you look, bastard there, I see it now, and so yes, it was really, really weird. But it was weird my very first watch two years ago. Yeah. Now it's like, all right, okay, I know what you're doing. You're totally busted. Absolutely not at all obvious. But Allison has already moved on to another conversation there, so she was distracted. So then staying on topic. The next part before the actual petition heating would be Vaymond giving dirty looks to look in the courtyard when he arrives. And that wee boy is so awkward. He feels so awkward about everything. Yeah, my god. And he says to his brother before Raymond arrives, he's like, you know, people wouldn't be questioning my succession if I looked a little bit more like laer Valarian then Herwin Strong. And he's got a point. Well, yeah, absolutely, which bugs the hell out of me. Because we're back to this whole you know, Targarians can't have dark hair thing, and that's not true because Rainy's supposed to have dark hair because she's half Brathian and therefore her grandchildren would be, you know, be descended from Brathians. And the dark hair gene is not really that big of a question. No, it's not, But people love to gossip. I mean, if we're going to go along the lines of a parent having dark hair is really the only genetic marker or not having dark hair, this is the issue. Alison has dark hair, so her kids could have had dark hair. They didn't. But surely Vices is onto something when he was talking about is his stallion analogy? You know, I don't think that the hair thing. No, how about the fact that they're white and he's not, which is the thing that no one is talking about, no right, And as a woman of mixed race, kind of irks. Me that they're just ignoring the race factor, making it all about damn hair color. I don't know if the are the makers of the show brave enough to touch on race. It's fantasy, it's is hair color a veiled way of touching on that probably not. We can delete that part. Well, I don't. I don't feel the need to. I don't think that. Yeah, because maybe maybe accusing them of being afraid to discuss race. Maybe they just don't want to get involved. Listen, and that's fine. Yeah, and yeah, they're they're they're choosing to not make that an argument because this is a fantasy and this is escapism. Yeah, but there's some price serious scenes going on here, and I think the issue is for me that they are choosing to ignore race when it's relevant. I get the point of not making it relevant, then why class black actors in these roles? Yeah, yeah, you've got a good point, and then don't go there. Yeah. So for me, this is probably my one arc from the entire show. If if you say there's one thing I don't like about House of the Dragon, I don't like that they have cast black actors in a role where race is relevant and chose to ignore it. Yeah, yeah, I completely agree with you. They really could have taken a stand. And they didn't. Yes, they didn't. They chose to sit on the fence and just not go there. But anyway, but I've got my rant out the way, moving on, because we could get lost on this for a while, and it's not that big a deal to me. For some people, it might be a huge deal to me annoy, But I love the casting and I love the escapabilism of the show, and that might make it all a bit too real and raise some real arguments amongst fans, And let's face it, they've already got enough to argue about. So the next scene relevant to this is Rainie's and Runida in the courtyard and not the courtyard in the gods would. This is a great scene. This is an amazing scene, and that is why I clipped it. Yes, you know, Reniez always makes the cart. I wondered for many an hour what your purpose was in coming here, whether you'd speak for or against the super Bowl by survenment, But then I realized you intend to advocate for yourself. This is now fair percee. It is a trap set by the Queen in the hand. I'd wage to proclaim my son illegitimate. Yet you did worse than that with Lene, Or. Did you not? I loved your son. You may not believe it to be true, but I did. I think she did. Yeah, I think I did not order his death, nor was I complicit in it. I swear this to you. I would have spilled the beans. Yeah, me too. I totally would have faced up there. Yeah, anyone, I'll make you an offer, a secret. I'll give you his address, back Luke's claim, and let us betray the Lane's children to mine. Baylor will be queen of the Seven Kingdoms, and her sons will be heirs. To the throne. Rainy will rule and drift mark. And the seat will past to hourly serious children in time. A generous offer or adjustment one, What does it matter? You're right in this at least it does not matter. You can bargain with me all you like, bring my granddaughter with you to soften my resolve. But tomorrow the high towers land their first blow. They force you to your knees. Then I must stand. Alone, sneaking. I was going to say making a stand, but that's not it. She's she's standing her ground. She's she said, I'm not getting involved. I've got enough in my own problems. Absolutely, and she's right. She's she's like, I can't go down with your sinking ship. Yeah she use a sailor metaphor, but yeah, she's and she's right, She's absolutely right. It's not a trap set by the High Towers. As you know, we need a suspect, it's Vaemon's Valarian. But the high vantage of a circumstance. Yea, the high Towers are more than happy to oblige, especially Alison in this situation. Well also as well, but I think. Also just wants to get one up on everybody, whereas Alison passionately wants this because she's so resentful towards Rania and her her lies and her deception and her sneaking around. And getting away with it. Yeah, and so therefore she really wants this and whatever Damon Valarian is want to bring to the table, she's like, Okay, I'm listening. We all know that one person that falls in shit and comes out smelling the roses. Oh god. Yeah, and for Allison that's Runina. Yes, absolutely, it really really is, I know off you. So the next topic of discussion prior to the petition is Vasceesi's health or the lack off. Yeah, his absence is notable, it really really is. And even still when Damon and Rnina first arrive and they're telling them that, you know, Carlos is injured and there's a petition and to decide the succession of drift Mark. And he's like, oh no, Alison, not a deal with that. Like he's waving them off, like go away, that's that. I don't know that crap anymore. He's thinking it very difficult to take anything, and he's full of milk of the poppy. Oh, definitely, he's so confused because after having the whole conversation, he goes, does something happened to Carlos? That was the first thing. So, yeah, he is mega confused. He's physically he's so frail and skeletal, and you know at this point he's still got the bandages and stuff on. So but later on we see the full extent of how decayed to his faces. It's fantastic. Oh, it is amazing. Props to make up CGI and a Sthetics and Paddy absolutely, yeah, we actually took an out of the names. Where are they? It was Amanda Knight that was head and makeup for viseries and Barry Gower was head of prosthetics and Angus someone I didn't catch his name from the VT, but I didn't. I don't think they said his sur name, which is why I didn't catch. It was also the guy in charge of the CGI on that they all work together to create this amazing effect of decaying and aging and sickness and. And nothing's missed, even his teeth, his fingernails. Oh absolutely, And in that video Paddy even says that you know, they no matter what they did, they never took it too far away from just letting me do me. Yeah, and props to Paddy for his performance there. It was absolutely outstanding through the whole episode. So yes, what else did I have here on his health? So yeah, there's the cobwebs on the model, and there's the incense burning everywhere. He's skating the babies. Yeah, that was sad. It was really sad. It's a lovely moment when Damon gives him the tea and then Damon wants to know what's in the tea. He's like, what was that? And he's got a little smile on his face, like smells good? Like what I said in the previous episode, what are they getting high on in Western I want to know tea? So yeah, Damon and Rinia then have this conversation with Alison and they pretty much accuser of open them. But you know, Alison's protest and saying, you don't know what he's like. I believe her too. We see a little bit of that the next day, or it's not the next isn't it is the next day because when he gets up and tries to get ready in the morning and he's really struggling, and then he ends up, oh ends up getting him the tea. But yeah, at this point is just existing. He really is. It's it's really hard to watch. Yeah, it's a hard watch. So later Nira goes to visit him alone at night, and. And she has this chat with him about do you remember when we talked about egg on the Conqueror and his dream? Yes, I clipped it and I was kinding on you to clip it. Now it's Vania father. N the. Song of Ice and Fire. Do you believe it to be true? They're God's dream? You told me it was our duty to hold the room united against a common foe. By naming me Air, you divided the room. Ah, I thought I wanted it. The burden is a heavy one. It's heavy. H m hm. Kay, if you wish me to bear it, then defend me. And my children. H m hmmmm, h. M hm that's fantastic. The way it's been done. It's the ragged breaths, the rain, the thunder, the yeah emotion in Randa's voice. Oh, it's so moving. I was just so normally we talk through them. I was just gripped. Yeah, through every second of that, every breath. It's different when it's just audio, isn't it. Yeah. Wow, And you think he's not coherent, he's not understanding what she's saying, and she's just feel for the girl. She's just sitting at the sound of his bed. Yeah, but he's up with the birds the next day, trying his best. Yeah. And yes, he. Does end up having a give in and take some meds, but he makes it. He makes it down there. Although I can't help wondering if that's what killed him, that last minute exertion, But it was the end anyway. Every it was just suffering. Yeah, if you're going to go go doing something meaningful. Yes, Just lying there fester in a way is not the way to go. No. If he gave his last bit of energy that he had to doing something he felt was right. Yeah, and that's cool. That is very cool. So I take it that brings us up to the actual petition itself. Yeah, Vaymond is absolutely thinking he is going to win this, that he has the backing of Alison. Oh, it's for him. Can we just talk about how comfortable all looked on this throne? Yes? Wow, he was living his best life, isn't he. Yeah, well, so let's get absolutely. I mean, last time we saw maybe we'd only been a couple of days back in the role. Years later. His bodies warming that street nicely, isn't it. Yes, I hope he cuts some with Jabsy's bump, So yeah, he is. You're right, Vaymond is so smug. And he makes this statement about how you know, Targarian's ruling the skies and Valerians ruling the seas, and how we're the only remaining families of Valeria, which is actual shite. There's the Keltigars, for one, and I believe there's another family as well. I can't remember their name, but I believe there is one other Valerian family in Westers as well. And it would be okay if they weren't going to go there. But I have it on good authority that we're going to get some Keltigars next season. So it seems it's a little bit of a. A goof as as it's titled in the IMDb, it's a goose. Yeah, definitely, it's not true. There are other Valarian, other Valerian than the Valerians. So just shows you what twenty it's really self important arsehol exactly. So Rnina totally interrupt some and Alison shuts her down. That was so awkward. It really was like so awkward she was she's lying. Ah Rnda, your big fiver. I mean, obviously she can't, yeah say the truth. But oh she said it was a straight face. Oh she did. But her children's lives depend on this lie, and certainly their future, their inheritance, their claim to the throne and drift mark, et cetera. And at very worst case, their lives depend on her being able to sell this lie. Oh she's a fantastic job that gesu. I know. Wow. So yes, it's it's very, very, very tense. But when Vaymond comes back at her, he's like he's like rabbit. Oh he's loving every minute of it. He's enjoying this. It's not just that he wants this to pass through his Vallarian blood and Vallarian name and all that stuff. He has developed some real contempt for Nida, and he is loving watching her squirm. Absolutely and Alison's the wind in his sails another. Oh that's good. So do you know what, let's hear the clip. What do you know, Valarian blood, Princess. I could cut my veins and show it to you and you still wouldn't recognize it. This is about the future and survival of my house, not yours, my queen, my lord hand. This is a matter of blood, not ambition. I placed the continuation of the survival of my house and my line above all. I humbly put myself before you. Was my brother's successor. He's all but saying that the Lord of Trichmark. And Lord of the Tides. Thank you, surveymen. Carlos isn't dead, dude, I. Know, Princess Rania, you may now speak for your son Lucerius Valerian. At that point this is just a formality. Yeah, if I am too grace this fast with some answer, I will start by reminding in a court that nearly twenty years ago, in this bout. King a series of housetag Aian, the first of his name, King of the Hales and the Rhina and the first Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and protector. Of the realm. Oh so, get your bum out of that seat. Absolutely, Oh seriously, Eric, is it Eric or Eric? No idea which one? But he went into the Westerling school of introductions. Weld's answer, absolutely, And it's just so moving. I just love the faces. They're like, oh shit, I no, oh my god. I cried. I actually I did. I was like, who go for series? He come three times, Emma three times, and I cried every time. I have no idea why you cried. I've got we tear in my eye right. Now, goodness me, And I'm not actually crying, but there's a weird tear, am I. I just got a little bit. It's so move it. It's the music, It's the whole thing, and the just the struggle that it is for him to walk up there. The music, the emotion, the faces, the fabulous introduction. Phantom of the Opera, vibe, Oh my. God, all together just hits my emotion trigger. And I think the music is the big factor for me. For me, it was when his crown falls off and he doesn't know that it's demon and he goes and he's like no, and then he notices it's demon, just takes his arm and just oh, it's lovely. He helps his brother in the seat, and he puts the crown on his head. Just takes a week back. Satan, that's lovely. Well, but the time he got to you know, Auto, and he's like, I will set the throne today. Had stopped crying by then, but when the demon thing happened, I started all over and I wrote best Broman ever. It was the absolute Broman. So yes, more crying and then I love the series. His line is like, well, I'm a bit surprised that we're here to discuss. A matter I've already decided. Yeah, still got his wits about him today, he's got his he's got his king head on. I just love Alison and Alto. They're like, oh shit, yeah, our plans have brief. Brilliant. He was listening, Yes, yeah, definitely. So then he says the only person that can offer some insight is Rainise, and she steps up and surprises everyone. She does. She does I'm staying out of this, but if I'm asked. Yeah, and she's she deliver first at the right time. When she's been asked by the right person. Yes, she's so wise, she's fantastic. She knew that if she delivered that, if she had tried to try to butt in with that information to Alice and also she would have been shut down. Yeah. But because it's for Seri's he's asking her directly what Cordless wants and she offers that information. But she goes that one step further, but to mention the marriage pack that Rinita had offered her earlier that day or was it the previous day either, And that was a little bit of validation for Rania in that moment, that she went that little step further to not only back Rinia with Corless's wishes, but to throw her own little bit in there too. Yeah. And I mean, like we said, she still thinks that they were complicit in Leonard's death. I wonder if she felt Nia was sincere. Yeah, Rina surely sounded sincere. Not sure that Rainie's is convinced that Damon didn't have something to do with that, But she's still she still goes for Rania's offer, which is great because it's for the good of her granddaughters, really benefit they will win. One will be queen. Yeah, the other one will be the lady of drift Mark perfect. Absolutely everybody lives, and that's that's what ultimately wants. She knows that those boys aren't really off her blood, but they're still boys that she has had a part in their life, their whole life as in a grandparent role, whether it be real or not. And I think Carlos is really lovely with them as well. He's like, they're they're little boys, yeah, exactly. And obviously as Leonard's parents, they saw how much Lenar loved those kids as his own, yes, and they knew that Leonar would never have his own. So these boys are the closest thing that Lennar would ever have had two children, and that they would have had his grandchildren exactly. You take what you can get, you certainly do, and I just thought it was a beautiful moment. I've also wrote here that Eggon thinks it's funny. He has a little snicker. He just thinks the whole thing's quite funny. It's funny. He doesn't care either way. He's just like, I don't even think at this point, Agon really has any aspirations to be king. He just wants to get pissed and as far as he's concerned Nida's successor, and I don't think he sees that this is the day that everything could change and that he could then be king. He's just watching the spectacle player in front of him, well, nursing his hangover. I just want to get press and get laid. Yeah. Absolutely his life. So next. Is the moment when Faymon really really oversteps and he starts shouting at the series bad move, dude, not a good idea. Let us play the clip, which I heartily agree. Well, the matter settled again. I have I rea firm. Princess Sarah's of has Valarian that to drift mark the drift woods thrown in the next Lord. Of the Tides, dear, keep it together. You break law. And centuries of tradition to install your daughter was heir that you dare tell me who deserves to inherit the name Valeri? Like that? No back off? I will not allow it, allow it. Do not forget yourself famed? What is no true Valerian a p. No nephew of mine? Good Chambers, you have said enough. The serious is my true born grandson? Do you no more than the second son of rift Bark? You may run your. House as you see fits that you will not decide the future of mine. Thank you. Well, my house survived the. Doom and a thousand tribunations besides. And God's be damned, I will not see it ended on the account of. This said damon taking him one. Is his face. It was like. Her children bastards. So oh too far, too far. Oh oh, no gossip. Well have your term for that squelch. He can keep his tongue. Oh dear, oh father, he my mom must take something a bay. Oh wow, that was squelch, heir. When you just hear it, wasn't it? That was epic? It was so cool. And then you see them later when they're treating the body and it's like the head, well you all know you saw it, don't you know what I'm talking about? Oh it was wicked gross. That sort is so sharp. He deserved it, Oh, big time, deserved it. He went too far. It's so disrespectful. It's that thing where it's like he's been holding it in for so fricking long that when he said it, his presentation was all wrong. Yeah, this this decade, had thought he was on a winner. Yeah. Vassernes comes in shoots some down in flames, and yeah, just absolutely boiling inside and loses his ship and then his head. Oh my god. Yeah, it was so wicked gross. I loved it, loved every second of it. And everyone here, Amond is fascinated. It's just completely fascinated by the whole thing. I don't know what he loved more the fact that, you know, Vaymond was shouting out the bastard thing or that damon decapitating, but he just thought the whole thing was great. So yes, that would be the end of that scene then, and it was. It was quite a pivotal moment. I loved it. I just love the gross stuff, A little bit sick like that. So that brings us to dinner, and yes, that was some dinner party. From start to finish. It was yeah. Yeah, when they first bring Viserisin mm hmm on his chair and it's it's so sad, but it's also so lovely that they have this last meal together, this last family gathering. Yes, but meanwhile we've got Egon winding up. Jase, none of it made it to funny lines. It was not funny. I didn't find any of it amusing, but he found himself funny. He just wants everyone to get along. Yeah, you know. And then he started to make that speech and then he takes off his mask. It's like, I want you all to see me. It's gross. It's so gross. It's so well done. I loved it. Oh yeah, again, props to prosthetics, CDI and make up. They were the cavities in his face and his eye sockets. Well, it was fantastic. It was very believable. Yeah. And then you see the making off video. You've got the the little head on the mannequin head on a stick on the bed. I'd love all the giggles. Oh. Absolutely, it must have so much fun making that stuff. Yeah, very kill So he says, let us no longer hold ill feelings in our heart. The crown cannot stand strong if the House of the Dragon remains divided. But set aside your grievances, If not for the sake of the crown, then for the sake of this old man who loves you all so dearly. Weld up a little bit. I didn't try this time though, but I did well up a little bit. It was very emotional, and you know what, the grown ups at least try, they. Do there's a really beautiful moment when I don't know who does it first? Is it Avison or Rinina Rania first? Actually, I have the clips, so let's play that. You're talking about the toasts? Yeah, yes, right, absolutely right, Yeah, that's the clip I've got. I wish to raise my cup to her grace, the Queen. I love my father, but I must admit that no one has stood more loyally by his side than his good wife. That's true, that is true. She has tended to him with unfailing devotion, love, yeah, and honor. And for that she has my gratitude in my apology. Your graciousness moves me. Do you play princess? She means that, Yeah, she does. We're both mothers and we love our children. We have more incomon than me. Sometimes, allow I raise my cup to you into your house. He will make a fine queen. So the toast initially from Visis, and then the toasts, the toasts they are from Alison, and I felt were real and heartfelt. Yes, and it was nice to see. These two great ladies being honest with each other and loving. Yeah. For vices, yes, they dug deep, but they meant what they said. They were honest. Well that's what I felt from Ruania I felt when she started, and She's like, right, and you do something for my dad. And I'm also not going to bullshit here, so what can I say good about her? That's real? And Alison responded very well to it and turned her kind gesture and the best way she could. She found a way to relate to unia mothers that loved their children. And it was it was very, very honest, and it wasn't through gritted. Teeth, no, it was real. However, they were trying to find some common ground. They are still got a lot of problems though. The toasts that followed that were what vices wanted to hear. Yes, were not heartfelt, they were not honest. They were telling an old man what he wants to hear. The boys yes, and he chose to believe it. Well, I mean, Agon was nipping and nipping at Jason. He got his reaction, and then Jase is realized, oh shit, I'm not supposed to react here. This is this is inappropriate. And yes his was a little less sincere, but he did try. He was trying to be the bigger person. Yes. And and then there was my favorite toast of all. First of all, she goes but the best beneath the boards and I'm like, okay, we've got some dragon foreshadowing there. And then it's just priceless. She's like, oh, to lady Baila and Rena, you're going to be married soon. It's not so bad. Mostly he just ignores you, except sometimes when he's drunk. Bless bless her. She delivered the line brilliantly. I loved it. It was great acting. So there's laughter and dancing and and then you know it when the series starts to look around the room, it's fat, it's you know, sorry. It starts off with Jace then asking Helena to dance. Yeah, which was it was a lovely gesture towards Helena, who is often ignored, but it was also a fuck cute egg gone. They can't help themselves. They're teenage boys. Yeah, but everyone's you know, the laughter starts and the dancing, the music and was having a great time. It's a lovely moment. Visari's looking around the table and it's very much this is the end. This is the last moments with my family. This is the last I'm going to see them having a lovely time, he's just absorbing it. It really is something beautiful happens with the music here. So up until now we've had this lively tune playing, and the musicians are in the room, in. The room with them. They've got a little band in the corner of the room, and that in sound design is what we call diegetic music. It's in the scene that the characters can hear it too, but the music changes to non diagetic, so it's just for us, the audience, just for us and for Visaris. It's this private moment between us and him that no one else in the room not says, because they're still dancing away the lively tune and we're in this it's the same tune, but they've taken away the drums and they've slowed it down and played it in a little bit more melancholy style. And oh, it's just heartbreaking. Did you cry? Yes? Yes, I did more crying. That was my second moment. No, sorry, well there was third thing, because I cried twice in that other saying when Damon picked up his cry, but that was still the first cry carried on just he set me off again before I was completely finished. But yeah, this was a whole new cry, Yes I did so that I've just felt was beautiful. And then of course she takes a funny turn and the guards were quick to get him out of the room like they've done it one hundred times before. Yep up with his chair hopefully go I don't even think he knew what was going on by that point. And then we have another toast. Oh but just before the toast the thing that sets it off. So Amon's just sitting staring around the room. He's got his bad eye towards the table. One one of the servers comes in and. Places a roast peg in front of him, and he doesn't see it because it's bad and Luke notices this and starts snickeringing at him, and then Amon turned around sees the peggs have to say where did that come from? And Luke starts snicking in some more, and that's when Amon snaps and jumps up. So there's a little bit of me that can't blame up for losing his ship. There. Triggered, absolutely triggered. It's so funny, just this double take. When Amon turned out, where the fuck did that come from? It took me a couple of watches to figure out what Luke was laughing at, and then I realized I was laughing myself. So yeah, yes, a toasts toast the strong boys. That's what the rest of that line says there. Yeah, it's just try to find if I could find another way to say it, but no, that was the best way. Yeah. I love how before the toast is even over, Agon's the first to lift his glass, ready to go. And then, of course, when Jayce loses his ship and punches Agne, Punch's Amon sorry Agone immediately just grabs look and smashes his face off a table. I called it fight ish, yeah, my notes because it was a bit pathetic. He's like my nephew's ernest. But I'm only being proud of my family, obviously my nephews aren't is proud of theirs. Oh, he's little digs. From Damon the Peacemaker question mark question mark because. He gets in the middle of them. And then there's this like Damon and Amon spare off, and Amon's a formidable fighter at this point he is. Did you notice that Amond is an anagram of Damon? I did not notice, but I have now noticed because I've just looked at my notes as you said it. Yeah, yeah, huh, they're They're very similar. And I think Damon notices this in this moment because as Amon storms off, Damon's like sniggering. Good. Yeah, this guy reminds me and me I like him. There's a there's like this more. This face on him is like both amused, crowd and a little bit like you know, I like him. In another circumstance, we could have been mates. Yeah, that is exactly it. So, yeah, he likes saman Deep die somewhere a bit. I think they're going to come to blows later, yes, and a big way. So then Venia and Allison have this moment and I just wrote, if the series hadn't died that night, what would have happened? There could have been a way forward for them At Bill Bridges, I actually clept it. It's very sure. I'll just play that. I think if we go back to Dragons Down, you really just drived. Let me see the children. Now we're turning on dragon back. The king and I would both like that, and I think she meant it. She did, and it's that's what happens when you know that a major figure in your family is on their way out. It doesn't matter what your grievances have been previously. You'll just put them beside because you know it's time to say goodbye. We'll tell that to some members of my family. Maybe I'm just speaking for me. No, I am like that absolutely. But now some members of my family kept their grudges going beyond Well, yeah, silly, silly people. They only get one go at this. I suppose shame. You can't chop people's heads off, but I think it's rind upon. So yeah, that just brings us to Seri's final moments later that night. He thinks he's talking to Runira. Yeah. In my notes it says not you, Alison, Yeah, not you. I also really like the way the shot was filmed. Am I not says that dagger again, was a really cool shot of the dagger. I didn't see it. I wasn't paying attention. Ah, you have to rewatch that. It was just. Well, it goes away from vices and it's a shot of the dagger. I must have been writing a note or something. It's very cool. Yeah, I'll go back and have a look at that. So yeah, it's very very very cleverly filmed. It's it's beautifully acted. Yeah, he's praying for death at that point when Alison leaves him, it's. No more, no more then the noise of his breathing. The death rattleh Yeah, yeah, how did he do that? Yes? I was. I was convinced. I was absolutely convinced. But the most beautiful part about that. Scene for me was his fine words, my love. And you just know that Emma was there. With them at the end, in his heart and in his mind, and that's all the mars bless him, and it's just she was always his love. And oh I did not cry at this point. I was hanging over I think you were all cried out at that point. Oh yeah, I was hanging on every breast and every word. But no, I did not cry. But god, it was so moving. And I played it over and over again even I think I did. I watched it maybe three times or something two years ago when it was brand new, just trying to make sense of what he said and what she heard, because there were two very different things. Yeah, but I can almost see how she got there, how she got that conclusion. Almost It started earlier in the throne room when she was helping him, just like get the king back to his room when he was having his funny turn, and he's like, I've got to put things right. I've got to put things right. So in her mind that that was already going through her head. He's got to put the thing. And then he says something else later. On that. Obviously that scene, that that that his final moments led him to believe, led her to believe that he wanted Egg on the throne. I still don't quite get it, though. There's there's that tiny little complication Alexson that he didn't actually say it. No, he was. He totally thought he was talking to Ranera and he's talking about Egg on the Conquerors. It's the conversation that Rania had with him, saying do you do you really believe? So he feels like this, yeah, and it's he needs to finish that conversation before he can finally let go, which he thinks he has done, and he's continued and finished that conversation with the complete wrong person. But hey ho, Yeah, so that was pretty much the all there is. Left real they talk about. But hey ho, it actually it causes the most implode of the family. But hey ho, absolutely, it's massive destruction. It is crazy, and this is what we're here for. This is why you were watching the destruction and the devastation and the heartfelt moments, but mostly the destruction and the devastation. There's also like the the implications of what it means for the head of a monarchy when when they die, what that means for everyone that's left there behind the shifting power of everything. So immediately you know, Allison's no longer the queen, Damon's no longer brother the king. Everyone's rank drops a little while others come up and rank, and it's a it's a massive power struggle. Everyone's out there to you know, make their mark and destruction and devastation. Oh yes, and everyone that is close to the crowd starts sucking up left, right and centers, you know, trying to make a lion says with important people, and it's it's crazy time throughout you know, monarchy, throughout history. Whenever you know, I'm on eyes, the upheaval that follows is insane. It's crazy. So yeah, we all know that this one is going to be crazier than most. Exciting because they're dragons. So that brings us to the end of our major plot lines, which it's time for our Dragon section, which is going to be very short this week. All there was to talk about in the dragon section this week there were, in fact, there were no dragon sightings in West of US this week. All we saw were some eggs. Yep, three eggs and a rather gross eggsact. Yeah, it was a bit ecky? Was Alien? It really was? Was? Yeah, I was. That's what I want was. I was sitting there going, this reminds me of something but every bad horror movie I've ever thought fair, But. Yeah, Alien, that's the one that is definitely it was. I just love his descent. Oh yeah, down through the chasm. That was quite cool. That was very well. But yeah, no, that that was gross exactly, it really was. And this concludes our dragon section. So do you have any funny lines? It wasn't a particularly funny episode. I do. We've already heard the clip and laughed that he can keep his tongue. That was classic Damon. However, there was a really funny moment with Sir Eric and Alison. All Right, they're they're coming through a corridor and she says, whatever it is, Sir Eric, it'll have to wait, and he says, I'm Eric, youre grace. She says, of course, my apologies, sir. And I laughed so much at that. Their their faces and the wa That was the only funny moment in that whole episode for me, because it was so awkward. Well apart from mostly he just ignores you. Also, Otto's response after Helena makes that toast and she sits down and at all like nods and smiles at her across. The table, He's like good, he was so proud. He's like, well done, darling. And I'm not sure what he was he was proud of proud that she just got up and made a toast, or proud that she. Just totally put egg On in his place. Maybe it was because she said something that made sense to every one at the table for once. Yes, absolutely well done for making for not talking in riddles. But I did find that quite amusing. So there's also that moment at the beginning when we've got Jace learning high valerium. Oh yeah, and. He's getting all stressed out and all worried about it, and we Needa says to him, well, unless you're planning to to pose your own mother, then I'd say you have time and then mister Girardi says confidence is a preference of the habitual of what is now a. Park. So yeah, any other funny lines, No, that was it for me. Yeah, I love Phil Daniels. I've had park life stuck in my head for days. Well, now it's out there. I'm so glad I got that out. So other notes. I have some stunning shots of the Red Keep. They were, oh, it was amazing. We saw it from the water, and I'm we've seen those shots before, but once it was just some new angles, I think, and it was just beautiful. Beesberry putting everyone to sleep. He's hilarious. It's so funny. Oh, okay, so I've got that Thailand Larister's getting more and more like his brother with every episode. Well yeah, yeah, he's channeling that smarminess big time. He seems really nervous in those first couple of episodes that we saw him in. Now he's like sitting back in his chair and he's talking like this. I mean, he is a lanister, after all. They are all loups himselves. Yeah, but you know, sixteen years in the small Council, he's certainly rubbing off. Yes, he's getting comfortable in that chair, smug get, bring back Jason's least entertaining. Well, maybe can be the new Jason. So another scene that we forgot to mention earlier because it wasn't a major plot line was poor Diana. Yeah, that was really sad. It was she was so scared and all I could think in the scene was cod Alison, you learned from the best, didn't you. Absolutely, she'd have been able to relate to this wee girl, and she wasn't relating to her. She's obviously pushed down all of any humanity that she had when it comes to her boy, and she's channeled her in her auto to deal with that situation. Yes, I don't want to say that she was completely void of compassion for her, because I don't think that that was entirely true. I didn't see any not one bit. She was a matter of fact, she was manipulative, and then she completely gaslighted her. Then she gave her the tea. Yes, yes she did. It's a far cry. From the wee girl that was lying on her back while Nina was having tea. Yeah, yeah, you're right. Yeah, I want to need to believe that she cared a little bit, but you've just convinced me otherwise. But that happens from time to time. I have such a thing about the Hidewers. You're always so nice about them, and I'm always so bean, but they're awful. I was listening to our episode five earlier prior to posting, and and you stuck up for a lottle. Oh my god, what about five? One and only time? We'll keep going back and forth on this, but yeah, it was. It was really sad. Poor girl. I don't suppose we'll see her again. She no doubt be gone with her bag of coin. The other point that I had, or another point that I have, because I still have a couple more, was the formalities through gritty teeth. So when Damon and Ruania meet Alison for the first time in however many years they've been gone, and it's all Prince Daemon, Princess Rania, your grace, Yes, that's the one, you're grace, And it's just it must be so hard to have to to keep up with the formalities when you've got such passionate feelings towards someone. Yeah, I suppose it's habits of their life time though they've grown up in royal society where that is the dumb thing. Yeah, I mean yes, and in the public eye or well where ears can hear. Yes, But in the privacy of your own bedchamber, I would have you when she walked. Yeah, it's all very formal. Definitely. We touched on this a little bit. But Aimon is quite the fighter, Yeah he is. That scene in the courtyard was, I mean. Yeah, I think he did get the better of Kristin Cole and Tristan Cole is proud. I don't think he let him win in any way. No, he didn't. He didn't let him win, but he wasn't fighting for his life as well. I reckon Christon could take him if they were fighting for his life. Yeah, but he was formidable. He's badass and that second son thing again, he's got so much more to prove. Yeah, so yes, that was. It was quite interesting to watch the kind of fighter that he's become because we're about to enter a war. Yep. Oh the way he's eye and his uncle Damon mm hmm. So another note that I got, Sorry that was from the previous scene as well with Alison, but Damon was not happy with the decor. I never thought Damon would be the one to pick up with the decor not after the tapestry scene. No, I suppose though from Damon's and Greneer's perspectives, targarian emblems that have been removed. Yeah, like this is their family home and those are their family crest. Yeah. Absolutely. I watched a pre show pre season two warm up the other day in which. It gave you a more in depth history and a house. High tower, and they are strongly connected with the faith and the Steps. They were one of the first families to openly convert to the Seven when the Anals first drived in west through Us. And of course the Starry sept is an old town, so yeah, the symbols of the Seven that have been placed around they keep are highly linked to the high towers in Venera and Damon's eyes, so it can see where the offense comes from, a like weighing on their territory. Yes, they've got their feet well and truly under the table. Yeah. So yeah. Interesting. Another observation that I have was winter is coming. Yes it is. You can hear and see how the weather has changed. The that they're wearing. Yeah, it was well wrapped up in the Godswood when she was talking to Rainies and as was Rainies. And there's a very dull, dingy dark. It's a very light autumnal s, isn't it. Yeah, we're on the cusp of winter. Yeah, and I mean it was very the height of summer when the show starts, and you know, ni like ours, it's taken a long time to get there to that winter, or maybe there was a winter during that time your time jump as well, you know, maybe they had some winter years there too. But we're getting background to winter again, and it's the first time we've we've seen that since the late seasons the. Game of Thrones, and I. Believe next season we're getting to go further north, even see some snow. So yeah, winter is coming indeed, and as are the starks. Yes. So one more? No, I have more than one more. I don't know why I keep saying one more. It's not one more. This scene where we laughed earlier on about you know, the remains of famine Valarian while they were treating the body, but this Rainy's in that scene we didn't touch on too much, and there was this moment with you know, Grandmaster our Will saying here that is bad luck to look upon the dead. And she says, the stranger has visited me more times than I can count, and I can tell you that he cares little my eyes are open or closed. That's incredibly profound and sad. Yeah, it really is. She's had so much loss and she's so strong, and she's still waiting to hear the outcome of Corliss. Yes, let's not forget the man is not dead, yite the way the episode, let's played as if he was already gone. So my second to last note here is I was thinking around the twisted Targarian contempt for the strong boys, and I find it how just you know, I don't know what the word is. It's I find it very interesting that in their world they're the freaks of nature. The strong boys are the freaks of nature, and the Targarians boys are looking. Down on them. Yeah, the Targarian boys are the ones that come from this incestuous family tree, and the strongs are you know. Not, And yeah, it just it baffles me, just. Like what we would consider normal completely flipped on its head. Yeah, but it is what it is in this world, and we just have to take that at face value. As that's what it is. So my final note was Missaria and Talia. Yes, she's got a very close spy, hasn't she She really does. That was very interesting to me. Well, she's going to get caught soon. She is. However, in hindsight, now there's been a couple of scenes where Alison has said very loudly, not now, Talia. M hm. So it's interesting that that's the way it's been played out, that she's the spy for the White Worm. Yes, because that's Talia coming in to try and sneak in and get some information, and she was sent on her way. And that was our little bit. Else was your week audience clue. It was something's not there right there, And I. Usually get these things that failed. I failed on that one. They didn't see it coming at all. I've seen it clear as day on my second watch when she came in the room and. She's like, not now, Talian. I'm like, all right, snoopy bitch. I saw it clear as day second watch, But first watch went right over my head. But it was another week serving girl getting sent on our way. I thought it was more to portray Allison just being dismissive. Yeah. So did you have any other notes? Did we do hear notes? No? I had no notes. All right, well, I suppose that brings us to the end of that, taking us into our rip section. Wow. So first of all, we said goodbye to Fame and Hilarion. He was a second son. Who he was the third son? Isn't he? Corlis was the second son? He was a twat. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Okay, he was, he was a twat. But was he a third son? I have no idea beyond I won't be disrespectful on the rip section. Okay, all right, he's laughing. Disrespectful, I think it may be. But get your ship together, because this one's real. Today we said goodbye. To King the series Targetarian, King of the Andals, the Rohiner and the first Men ordered the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm. I just got a little choked up. He was a husband to Emma, Aaron he was and Alison high Tower. He was father to the Realm Ranida, agon Amond, Helena and Darn. Who seems to have been forgotten about up to now. H But he he was a. Very He had a hard, hard, hard life, full of conflict that he didn't see is necessary estrangement from his brother that he absolutely, deep down just loved so much, yet he and feud them at times. As do all brothers. I'm unclear as to the relationship he had with Allison's children, but the love he had for Runida shows me that. He was a loving father. He was and his ultimate. Just refusal to believe the things that were said about her, even though though they were right there in front of his face, just shows as a loyal, unwavering loyalty. Yes, I'm with you to the end, girl, no matter what mistakes you've made. And yeah, I want to take a moment. To show utter respect for Paddy and the job he did portray him, and. They will both be missed on the show. But this is a story of succession and for those others to succeed, the king must die. So we always knew this was coming, and here we are next in peace. Your pain is over. The serious Yes, first of his name, and now the dance begins. So fun fact, fun facts, Let's see what have we got. Via Entertainment Weekly, it was reported that the crown falling off the series's head was an accident while shooting Matt just picked it up and we just kept going. This felt like the turning point in their relationship. They like to take so much that it made its way into the episode. I love that. That's amazing. That is so cool. Oh, this one's interesting. This is not the first time that Tie Tenant and Glenn Carney play the same character. In House of the Dragon twenty twenty two, they both play Agon, with Ty playing the younger version and Tom playing the older version. They have done this before for. The movie Tolkien twenty nineteen, where they both play the character Christopher Wiseman. A big light bulb just went up Emma's head. You should say it. It's huge and it's flashing the penny drops. Excellent. That was such a fun fact. That was a great film. When Vissers is informed that his youngest grandson is also named Vissers, he says, a name fit for a king. This is a bit of foreshadowing Runida's son Vissers will eventually, many years later, become a king. Brilliant. Yeah, so there's a really good YouTube video that we watched. Yes, we did. It was so cool. I will share the link on our Facebook. Paid guys. Check that out. Perfect. So funny funniest moments from that was it was about Paddy's wigs. Yes, so Paddy's wigs went in five stages. Apologies, I can't remember the middle one. I think we were laughing too hard at that point. Yeah, or maybe just skipped it. So first wig is pretty pony, yeah, second wig is scabby. Pony, Yeah, I love it. Middle one We're not sure. The fourth wig is ball bag and the fifth wig is beyond ball Bag. And the funniest part is when when filming ended for that episode, Paddy received Beyond ball Bag as a gift signed by everyone on this set, and it's totally growl ulcerated, scalped and sparse hairs. Is just so discussed as love that he named all these looks. That's hilarious. There was another really hilarious moment with Paddy lying in the bed in the full of the series skeleet Ale makeup scenes, and Allison's by the bed and he reaches out a hand towards and he's like, close. Your risk, give me your head. I don't know how Olivia Cooke didn't know yourself. I actually know how she reacted because she kind of wandered off. But it was oliarious. You guys need to check out this video. It was so funny and it is absolutely amazing them showing you the process that they went through to make. The series look older and sicker, and. The prosthetics are amazing, the makeup's amazing. Check out, guys. These people are so talented. And then you add in the CGI on top of that and you've just it was absolutely outstanding and I love watching a good making off and that was definitely one so fun facts galow in there, so I will link that on our.
